The Kicking Yoda

Sport This is the story of Doug Blevins, one of the best kicking football coaches of his time that he never kicked a ball in his life. He was born with cerebral palsy and he was never being able to walk. At the age of 4 years old he realized that he wanted to go to the NFL and the best way was to have a specialty. Kicking was the right specialty because at that time not many kicking coaches were in the league and not many coaches knew the kicking techniques. He started coaching his friends in his hometown Abingdon, Va, and helping them to improve their kicking techniques. One of his biggest achievements was to coach Adam Vinatieri. Adam was a free-agent when Doug trained him and later Adam signed by the Patriots shortly thereafter. Adam and coach Blevins ended every practice session from the 48-yard. The Patriots won his first Super Bowl with a winning field goal from 48-yard of Adam Vinatieri. The New England Patriots gave him a lot of credit for that but he wasn't happy because his team at that time (Miami Dolphins) got eliminated early on. His first job was the New York Jets, where he spent one year there as a kicking coach. After that he was hired by coach Johnson to be the kicking coach of the Miami Dolphins for six years. Few years after, he became the kicking coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Now Doug's an assistant coach at Division III Emory and Henry, a small school next to the Appalachian Mountains. He's also the proud tutor of 26 current NFL kickers and punters 2017.
